| Why is it that people seemed so certain about what went on behind the "Iron Curtain"? "People were imprisoned for their beliefs and you weren't allowed to demonstrate on the streets."
Well if you opened your eyes then I'm sure you'd discover that you don't have to travel very far to see evidence of Big Brother. It's the same story throughout the world, in every single place - as soon as you become a real threat the authorities stamp all over your face. If you think it doesn't happen here you're very naive, and you've accepted everything that they want you to believe. You're a dog on a lead that's never tried to break free. You've never been close to the edge and that's why you can't see that there is a limit to what your leaders permit and they'll haul you back in if you try to cross it.
Yes, we all know that if you just sit at home and watch TV, or go out to the pub, then you'll probably never see the state's oppressive arm come down on anyone's shoulder. When you really shake the foundations then what happens, of course, is that the Force of Law becomes the law of force. The Government points an accusing finger at other countries and says it's disgraceful. They'll tell you it could never happen here, so by keeping you ignorant they're keeping you grateful. But now it's us who are pointing the finger and telling you that it's happening right under your nose - just open your eyes and look. In many ways it's the apathy and gullibility of the public that's to blame.
If all the squatters, the animal rights campaigners, the peace campaigners, the homosexuals, the Marxists, and the anarchists were imprisoned tomorrow, would the people rise up in disgust and overthrow the Government? Or would they be able to cover it up and justify it to the general public - make them think that those imprisoned probably deserved it anyway? Think about it... |
