You're in my soul
You will always remain
You'll cover my world
With the west coast rain
The faces in the photograph look out at me
From another life - from the place beside the sea
The faces seem to call to me, they cry out loud
Somehow a prairie kid is missing from the crowd
I stare into the shot, can't take my eyes away
I can't believe a decade's on the eve of its decay
The faces look cold - still they draw me in
Where was the prairie boy? Was he already wearing thin?
All I see
Is that I'm not there
The faces are drowning me
And
Smothering me from the other time
With the echoes of a thousand borrowed lines
The faces in the photograph will never care about the prairie kid
Was I ever really there?
You don't see
They don't care
They just kept on starving me for air
