When first I got lost in their Valley they came to me singing
I would have died then if not for the water and nuts they kept bringing
And when I recovered I heard all the village bells ringing
As the sun rose o´er the hill
I was serving still
My heart and will.
But then once again I needed their help so I came back.
But I couldn’t get lost there again though I followed the same track.
There were no birds at sight, so I decided I might burn my name-tag
But I could not get lost so until
I ceased to feel
My heart and will.
And after it rained these birds came to help: I lay self-blind.
Then in their most careful way they pecked all the blindness off my eye.
And I made no move lest Id scare them away and we’ll all die
Because they’d starve in their homes on the hills
And I wouldn’t be breathing still
Against my heart and will.
