McAlpine lay at his deathbed His disciples were gathered around When asked how to honour his memory These words he began to resound: "If you must give me two minutes silence When I am put down in the ground But don't stop the big mixer goin' And throwin' the concrete around" Keep the big mixer goin' Leave Paddy with the shovel at the back The wheels of the world keep a-rollin' They count all your money in stacks Peter, he fell from the scaffold They had him replaced in good time Computers scan barcodes in Tescos Space rockets shoot into the sky Breakin' your back for the bosses To put enough food on your plate By the time that you've paid off the landlord There's just a few pennies to scrape Keep the big mixer goin' Leave Paddy with the shovel at the back The wheels of the world keep a-rollin' They count all your money in stacks So long as ya feed the big mixer The chalice will never run dry The cages of commerce surroundin' A lark never learns how to fly Trapped there inside of the rat race And get nothin' from it at all Till we keep the big mixer goin' And piss while we can up the wall Do what you're told by the bosses Try not to rattle the cage Bless when you pass by the crosses In Heaven you might break your chains When you've dropped dead at the counter There'll be no time for an amen Somebody's already lined up there To start the big mixer again Keep the big mixer goin' Leave Paddy with the shovel at the back The wheels of the world keep a-rollin' They count all your money in stacks When you've dropped dead at the counter There'll be no time for an amen Somebody's already lined up there To start the big mixer again
